Privateer Press has announced an exciting addition to their Organized Play program, Crossroads Of Courage Narrative League. We were lucky to have an interview with William Hungerford, Organized Play Developer for Privateer Press, outlining how it’ll run!
What is the new Crossroads Of Courage Narrative League program?
“Our new casual Crossroads Of Courage Narrative League will be comprised of four seasons (months), each four weeks long. New Organized Play kits will be available each season and progresses the league’s storyline.
The coolest part of the program is the fact that the story is centered around a single character named Holden. Players choose to be part of either the Reaper or Sower faction and report Holden’s actions based on their play, or not. What I mean by “or not” is that a player may elect to not include Holden in their build and can still submit a story about him and his exploits. All reports/stories received prior to the end of the season (month) will be used to progress Holden’s storyline and evolve his abilities in the next season’s kit. Essentially, what Holden becomes will be driven by the players and their play/story submissions.”
If a store joins late in a month or can’t run the entire league until after month’s end, can they still take part?
“Absolutely! Stores can run a season’s kit after the end of the month it was released but any reports or stories received won’t be used to develop Holden. Unfortunately, we have deadlines that must be met!”
What games will it support?
“The new program will support both Hordes and Warmachine.”
When will the new program start?
“The scheduled launch for Season One will be in September 2016, and this will run for four weeks. Season two will be available through November.”
When will the League finish?
“Crossroads will run until the next Lock & Load Gamefest in 2017.
Lock & Load is our very own convention held close to our offices in Belleview, WA. You can view how fantastic 2016’s event was at: http://www.pplockandload.com/”
What will be the league’s reporting mechanism?
“Unlike most of our programs, reporting will be very light. Players can simply submit a story about what epic adventure Holden had in their game. We really want participants to play games and have lots of fun. Therefore, this would be an ideal program for newer players, as well as experienced players wanting to try fun builds. All stories and reports should be sent to me directly.”
Will we see Holden again after the end of the league?
“YES! The final evolution of Holden will be available later in 2017 as a for-sale miniature. How cool is it that a future miniature was defined by your reported game play?”
What will be in the Crossroads Of Courage League kits?
“Season 1’s kits come in two forms:
The Crossroads Of Courage Season 1 Core Kit:
- Supports up to eight players
- 8 × Metal Coins of Fate participation coins
- 8 × Courage cards
- 8 × Coward cards
- 1 × Explanation sheet
The Crossroads Of Courage Season 1 Reinforcement Kit:
- Supports up to four players
- 4 × Metal Coins of Fate participation coins
- 4 × Courage cards
- 4 × Coward cards
- 1 × Explanation sheet
This is unlikely to change in future seasons but with this being a totally new initiative it is always subject to change.
Scenarios will be available for FREE in the Organized Play section of the Privateer Press website.
Stores will be able to mix-and-match the two kits to ensure they have enough support materials for their community.
Something really cool for the players – Starting with season two, the participation coins will have a use in the scenarios. Stores should remind players to keep them handy!”
Where can you purchase the support kits?
“The Crossroad League kits are available from PHD upon request and strictly while stocks last.”
