Fate Reforged Pre-Release is upon us and it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun. This time around players will have the chance to awaken Ugin, the Spirit Dragon by completing their achievements during the Pre-Release event and earn prizes doing so. Wizards of the Coast has provided a score sheet for the players and we’re here to provide a score sheet for you, our awesome retailers. But first, let’s go over what’s happening during the Fate Reforged Pre-Release.
Don’t Let Sleeping Dragons Lie
You have 2 options here; You can read what I have to say. You can watch this handy video Wizards of the Coast made. OR, you can do both. 🙂
During your Fate Reforged Pre-Release, players will have the chance to awaken Ugin, bringing him into the story of the Khans block and earning, “Ugin’s Fate” prize packs. These contain 4 cards: 1 Token, 1 Basic Land and 2 alternate art cards from either Khans of Tarkir or Fate Reforged.
To awaken Ugin’s spirit, players will need to complete the achievements that come in their Pre-Release packs. Every round of a Pre-Release event, at least half of the players in your event must complete at least 1 achievement. Once half, rounded up, of all your players in a single event have completed an achievement, they have succeeded for a single round. Each successful round, you will get to remove one of the seals on Ugin’s cocoon, starting with the lowest number first and open a side of the cocoon. After your players have completed 3 successful rounds in an event, they have summoned the spirit of Ugin and all players will be rewarded with an Ugin’s Fate promo pack.
After each Pre-Release event, re-fill Ugin’s cocoon and apply the seals provided in reverse order; 3, 2 and then 1. You would think that the cocoon of a Dragon Spirit would be pretty tough but apparently it’s made of card board. So be careful when handling the cocoon to ensure you are able to keep using it for all of your Pre-Release events.
Resurrecting a Dragon Is Going To Take Some Paperwork
A regular Pre-Release can be stressful enough, now you are responsible for bringing back a Dragon! We’re here to help you with a simple Achievement Tracker designed for you to easily keep track of all your player’s achievements for each round. Afterwards, you can hang them in your store or post pictures online and share with all your customers and PHD, every time Ugin was brought back.
As I said above, we have made a PDF for you, the retailer, to use during the event to keep track of your player’s achievements. You can download the PDF, right…HERE! Go on, click that link and “Save” to your desktop. It is already in Black and White, so you will not be wasting any of that precious magenta gold in your printer. I would recommend you print it out now so we can go over it together.
Here we have the basic information for each event. “Date”, put the date the event is being held. “Time”, the time the event was scheduled to start. Lastly, Top 3 standings for this event. Sometimes, players may not want their name on a sheet you are going to hang up or post online, so always ask first before posting their names to the rankings.
The Meat and Potatoes of the Achievement Tracker
Start out by writing the number of players you have in the round, in the “Players” bubble. As you can see, we have 45 players in the first round. That means we are going to put 23 in the “Target” bubble, which is half of the number of players rounded up. You can easily adjust between rounds to account for players dropping or if you cut to top 8.
Here is the really helpful part. Without this sheet, you would have to keep tick marks, count in your head and other ways that are bound to get messed up. The middle section of each round banner has smaller bubbles that you fill in each time your players in a round complete an achievement. After that, I like to put a check mark or an “X” on top of Ugin’s picture if they succeeded or not.
This all makes keeping track of what can be a hectic task while running your store and an event, very easy. We hope you find it helpful.
You Said Something About Online?
I did, good memory. Taking a picture of these sheets and posting them to your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram is a good way to build interest in your events while they are happening. Show your players who are not there, what is going on during the event. After each round you can post a picture of the current progress and let your players know you are doing it. This will encourage them to Like, Share, Tag etc, with the photo and gaining you that much more exposure online and keeping the interest in your events growing. Make sure to tag PHD as well, we want to see how your players are doing!
You don’t do the internets? That’s fine, you can hang the completed sheets up in your store for future customers to see how your Pre-Release events played out and who summoned Ugin or not. Or you can give them to your players who may want them. It’s entirely up to you to choose what your customers would like or works best for your store.
No matter which route you go, it’s all about helping you, the retailer. We want to help make running your Pre-Release easy and less stressful. We want to help you share and connect with your customers online. We want to help you generate buzz and conversation in your store about what great events you run. It’s a simple sheet but can be used as a powerful tool to help you and your store, run great events and develop relationships.
