In today’s TCG market it’s hard to establish a new footprint. Several games have tried over the previous years. Most have failed. Some of those were reskins of previous games. Therefore you’d expect another rerelease of an old game to suffer the same fate. Correct? Not so with Dragon Ball Z. The signs are not just showing positive that this game has legs, but it’s already beyond it’s previous popularity and accelerating rapidly. Like some vintage NASCAR equipped with a modern engine, this game looks, feels and plays like it’s vintage self, but has all the speed and competitiveness of today’s top selling TCG leaders. This includes a still popular cartoon series screening on US TV.
No surprise that Panini has announced the next installment and first booster only set. Dragon Ball Z: Heroes and Villains is going to provide players with 140 new cards, which, obvious from the set name, are focused on exciting new heroes and devious iconic villains. This set will continue to build on the meta-game, indicative of TCGs, by being completely compatible with the previous set.
New Organized Play Events
Panini quickly offered store support for Dragon Ball Z, which is essential in today’s TCG world. With the announcement of Heroes and Villains, they also spoke about adding more store support in the form of highly collectible alternate art cards, and the addition of Premier events as of Spring 2015. Currently I don’t have more details on what these will be but as soon as I know I’ll be sure to share the news. I could speculate, but I’d rather wait for the official word. I’m sure you’re thinking the same as me already.
This looks like a great expansion to an already solid game. Therefore, if you’re thinking of expanding your store’s card games, I can’t recommend enough the inclusion of DBZ and investing in Heroes and Villains.
