Today, at Essen, Hasbro announced a joint venture with it’s subsidiary company, Wizards of the Coast, to produce a strategy board game in 2015. Even though they bill it as a board game it certainly comes over as a miniatures skirmish game much like Heroscape and not surprising since it’s co-developed by the same team that worked on Heroscape.
I also include a Q&A with Hasbro giving more details direct from them about the game. It’s worthy of note that the game is announced as a board game but they describe it as a tactical miniatures game. We’ll publish more as we get it.
- Players: 2-5 glad to see it’s not a 1-on-1.
- Play time: Under 1 hour
- Price: TBA
- Release: Fall 2015
- Replay: High, as the board is customizable and multiple Planeswalkers to play.
- Type: Board game, miniatures game cross over.
- Learn to play: Easy. Ideal for new players or invested Magic players
- Look and feel: Pays a lot of homage to the Magic brand (cards and abilities) yet uses a lot of the Heroscape engine.
