Wizards of the Coast has announced that, starting with Kaladesh and continuing for the foreseeable future, all sets will have their own iterations of what they’re calling the Masterpiece Series. Kaladesh and Aether Revolt will both include cards from the Masterpiece Series called Kaladesh Inventions.
Kaladesh Inventions will include 54 cards, 30 of which will be in Kaladesh. Each masterpiece will be premium foil, and they’ll show up in booster packs only slightly more frequently than premium mythic rares. You’ll crack one open in roughly 144 booster packs.
No masterpiece will be a new card. Though the series may include cards new to the expansion they’re printed in, every Masterpiece Series card is also available outside the series. However, part of the reason Wizards of the Coast created the Masterpiece Series is to help supply the market with some hard-to-find cards, so in some cases, the masterpiece printing will actually be more accessible than the older printing.
