April 29th is when many of us will celebrate International Tabletop Day 2107 and the event will be here before you know it. As, I mentioned in a previous article, there are many things that you can do to draw attention your store on this special day. With this in mind, here are a couple of other fun tips to make the largest celebration of tabletop gaming in the world a success in your store.
Make Sure That Your Event Is Extensively Promoted
Listing your store on the International Tabletop Day website is a great opportunity to promote your store’s activities and gain exposure on a greater level. This is a useful tool that should not be overlooked. Understanding that this event is a world wide phenomenon and a chance for folks to step out and get their geek on, while meeting like-minded individuals, is a powerful motivator. Most importantly, this is your chance to bring people in that may have never seen the inside of your store before.
As you’re preparing to list your events, take a few moments and find out what stores in your area are already hosting. Since April 29th also ties into the launch weekend for Magic: The Gathering Amonkhet, expect a lot of stores to have events scheduled around that release. If your store is not a Trading Card Game (TCG) store, focus on all of the cool games that you have to offer, and create events surrounding them. If you are a TCG store, make sure that you schedule time for other events around your Magic tournaments. Yes, you want to accommodate your long-time customers, but you don’t want to turn away potential new customers either. This is a once-a-year opportunity to embrace strangers and turn them into friends.
Spell It Out So Customers Can Make Time To Come In
Wherever you list your events, clearly announce what you have scheduled for the day. Use the ITTD site, Facebook, your store’s website and in-store calendar to break down your day into manageable blocks. A bulletin board or white board with your events clearly explained in the days leading up to the event will inspire customers to inquire and create opportunities to discuss the day’s events.
Also, when posting on social media, feel free to utilize the assets provided by the team at ITTD by accessing their Dropbox. You’ll find several graphics that you can use to support your ITTD event, as well as the “How Did Board Games Change Your Life” media program.
Just remember that ITTD 2017 is the day that your store should stand out. You’ll want to show the world your store’s unique charms and what a fun-filled environment it is. Now, go forth and PLAY MORE GAMES!
